This week I am thrilled to bring you my interview with Lee Holmes and her Legacy Project – Supercharged Food. I discovered the work of this holistic food and nutrition coach on my own journey to wellness and have been a fan of her simple, delicious and healthy recipes ever since. What many people don’t know about Lee is her petition to the Health Minister which has resulted in the NSW Government rolling out a new hospital menu in selected hospitals. We need to do more. I urge you to visit her petition on change.org and vote to change the way the health system operates throughout our hospitals – both public and private. From my own personal family experience I agree it’s in need of a major overhaul!
I love her approach to food and wellness and completely agree with her when she says that the first step to supercharging your life is to take responsibility for your own wellness.
I believe Lee is a Visionary Entrepreneur – She’s created a heart centred business that’s foundations are built around authenticity, giving back and helping others.
When it comes to serving a higher purpose in business Lee says, “It helps to offer a meta modernistic approach to life and community. It’s like a radio wave that connects people without being a zealot or shouting it from the rooftops. Supercharged food is about embodying a positive approach to food and wellness. At it’s core it influences others to change their lives. That’s really inspiring for me.”
Read on to discover the story behind Supercharged Food and what drives Lee to keep going.
Q&A
What inspired you to create Supercharged Food?
I had a health issue which I wanted to improve so I starting creating recipes and putting them online. I needed a place to put them as my friends noticed I was getting a lot healthier and they all wanted to make the recipes! It was just an easy solution to put them up on a blog instead of emailing them to everyone. That’s all it was at the time I just felt inspired to share my creations with those close to me but then I started getting emails from people all over the world who had been in a similar situation and had autoimmune issues and fibromyalgia and it really spurred me on to help as many people as I could.
What were you doing before you set this up? Was there an event or circumstance that served as a catalyst for the work?
Yes getting sick was the catalyst and I started to look at food and ingredients as a way to improve my health. I was working at ABC at the time heading up the Kid’s Music Department. I woke up one day unable to get out of bed and then went through a very complex medical system and tests and was put on a concoction of drugs such as steroids and immune suppressants. That led me to having to leave work so I needed to find something to do which would allow me to work from home whilst getting over the chronic fatigue I was also suffering. My blog became a place where I could really express my feelings and turn what was a scary experience into something more positive.
How does Supercharged Food bring your unique talents to life? In what way does it give you personal fulfilment or a sense of purpose?
I have used all the skills I learnt at the ABC, how to create a brand, product development, marketing, sales, distribution and publicity. But the funny thing is I through all the conventional marketing strategies out the window when it came to my own business and just created a heart centred business that’s foundations are built around authenticity, giving back and helping others. That gives me a much greater sense of purpose.
What drives you to do the work that you do and keep going?
All the emails and messages I get from people who have improved their lives and health through my recipes, books and heal your gut online programs.
What has been a highlight of Your Legacy Project so far?
Getting to meet people from all over the world and connect with them. It’s so wonderful to be able to meet like-minded people and I’ve actually made a lot of new friends from blogging too! Another highlight was getting my first book deal which was a dream come true as I had always aspired to be a writer.
